BORN AGAIN BY THE WORD

03_18

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”

1 Peter 1:23

The Bible teaches us that when we were born again, the precious blood of Christ rescued us from an empty way of life (1 Peter 1:18-19). Jesus is the Tree of Life for us, bringing us His new life and nature. When the seed of His Word is planted inside us, we are destined to bear the same kind of fruit as He did because a seed has the same nature as the tree that it comes from.

What’s more the seed planted in us is incorruptible. It is totally separate from the line of human sin and wickedness. This seed which comes to us in the form of God’s Word is pure, holy, and perfect. The Lord plants this seed in anyone who has been washed with His blood. When we talk about a seed in this way, we are referring to all it contains in its genetic code that it is carrying from its parent plant. Here in his first book, Peter is expressing a contrast. He is saying that we no longer inherit the perishable genetic nature of our ancestors. According to (Lamentations 5:7) they sinned and died and have passed onto us the effect of their sinfulness, which we now have to bear. By contrast, the verse in 1 Peter is telling us how we receive the pure, holy and imperishable seed of the Word of God so that we can grow with the new nature of Christ.

In order to be born again you need to consider the followings points:

The seed of the Word must be planted in your heart. The Word of God is the only incorruptible, imperishable, holy seed there is.

The planted seed remains forever. When His Word has been planted in your heart, even though attacks, struggles and oppositions may come, as you cling to the Word, you will see that it remains alive in you and you will persevere in faith.

Although everything around you may come to nothing, keep believing that the seed is imperishable. Everything you look at will pass away, but the Word of God is indestructible, it remains forever. That is why it is important for the seed to be planted in your heart and for your heart to be “good soil” to receive it.

The seed is planted through the Word of God. If there is no preaching, there is no seed planted. Every message and every teaching that you receive is a seed from the Word of Life that is being planted in your heart.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
The night I had a personal encounter with Jesus totally transformed my life. Everything that had brought satisfaction to my life up to that point suddenly stopped having any effect. I could no longer stand listening to swear words, nor did I feel comfortable around my former friends. However, I did not know the purpose of this change. I thought it was an experience that would last for a short time, and that later everything would return to normal. This was until I prayed, “Lord, tell me what is happening to me, I feel as if I am another person.” He gave me the answer through His Word. He said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). I understood that knowing Jesus and living in His Word is what changes us. brings us freedom.
