DECLARE THAT YOU REMAIN PURE

01_11

“But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”

1 John 1:7

One of the greatest revelations that God gave the people of Israel was about the spiritual significance of Passover. It happened at the moment of greatest uncertainty for the Jews, while they were living under the oppression of Pharaoh. This caused the people to cry out to God for a miracle; to be freed from the controlling spirit of Pharaoh. God heard their cry and sent Moses with the mission of freeing them from the yoke of slavery.

The strategy that God used to free His people from Egypt was the Passover. There are three very important elements in the tradition of the Passover (Exodus 12:13,14):

1. The lamb, which is a prototype of Jesus. John the Baptist called Jesus the Lamb of God.

2. The bowl, which is where blood was collected. It represents our life of faith by which we receive the benefits of the blood of Jesus.

3. The hyssop, which is a prototype of the confession that we make regarding the blood of Jesus, which brings us favor.

One of the prayers David made was, “Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:7). David knew about the power that was in the branches of hyssop and that it represented being cleansed with the blood of Jesus.

The Apostle John leads us to use the hyssop to continually apply the blood of Jesus over our lives. He wrote in 1 John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” We can note that in this passage, the tense of each verb is in the present continuous form. In other words, this is something that we have now and will continue to have for the rest of our lives. This means that if you believe in the power of Jesus’ blood, it cleanses you right now but also continues to purify you from all sin and wickedness. We live in a world where the filth of hell wants to contaminate our lives. However, as we are in the light and have communion with other Christians, the blood of Jesus maintains the process of purification and sanctification in us. This prevents our heart from being touched by the stain of sin. He will keep our robes clean, as it says in Ecclesiastes, “Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil” (Ecclesiastes 9:8).

God can keep us completely pure, but only as a result of remaining in the light and being obedient to His Word. If we have communion, or live in harmony with our brothers, the blood of “Jesus will keep us in complete purity. We will be able to say, “Because I am in the light and walk in love with my brothers, the blood of Jesus cleanses me now, and it keeps on cleansing me continuously from all of my sins.”

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
The power of the blood of Jesus can keep our lives pure at every moment. I was once in a very nice restaurant in Brazil and my jacket got stained by some grease from the food. Immediately, the waiter who saw what had happened approached me with some carbonated water and a napkin. He simply applied it to the stained area and it quickly disappeared. It made me realize that there are moments in life when our robes become stained, but the blood of Jesus will always be ready to cleanse us from any stain we have received. All we have to do is to apply it.
