According to the most recent psychological studies, man is characterized as having very neurotic behavior. Lots of people are living in despair, which is a representation of the fulfillment of what the Lord prophesied for these times. The Word says, “People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken” (Luke 21:26). The Apostle Paul wrote, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:31, 32).
Thomas Carlyle said, “The first duty of man is to conquer fear; he must get rid of it, he cannot act till then.”
Today God’s invitation to man is to forsake all kinds of foolishness including harsh words and slander. Take a few moments to think about how you talk to your loved ones. Don’t fill the atmosphere with shouting, rude or hurtful words that affect the emotional state of others because these kinds of words cause fear. Solomon said it like this, “Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife” (Proverbs 25:24).
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
One day, a frustrated mother told her husband that she didn’t know what to do to stop her three children from yelling so much in the house. The husband looked at her and said, “Have you listened to how you talk to them? The children are just copying with the tone of your voice!” This mother did not understand why her children behaved as they did until her husband placed a mirror in front of her. Then she was able to see that she was the one who yelled the most.
The greatest offenses are caused in moments of anger or desperation. We know that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, and also that it is our words that bring us dignity or shame. Receive self-control from the Holy Spirit and only use your words to edify.”
