CALLING THE LORD’S ATTENTION

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”

Genesis 6:8

The human race began to multiply across the earth in a great way. The sons of God fell in love with the daughters of men. They stopped admiring God the Creator and focused all their attention on the women He had created. The Lord was so tired that He decided to argue with them no more, since they frustrated Him with their rebellious behavior, so God decided to put an end to this project called “man,” since evil had surpassed all the limits. Sexual promiscuity was at an all time high. God saw that evil had grown so much it was like a cancer in the entire human race. At the moment God decided to bring an end to His work, a man called Noah rose up like a light at the end of a tunnel.

A beam of light illuminated the Universe and in the Kingdom of Heaven a proclamation made by the angels was heard, “There is a man who has found favor in the eyes of the Lord.” This voice was heard at precisely the right moment when everything was about to be drawn to an end. What did Noah have to attract God’s attention? He was a righteous man, his descendants were perfect, and he walked with God (Genesis 6:10). God chooses this man, to reveal His will to. He told Noah His plan to eradicate evil from the face of the Earth and His plan to keep the human race alive in Noah. God promised him that He would provide protection for Noah’s family, “But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you” (Genesis 6:18).

When Noah finished building the ark, God told him: “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation” (Genesis 7:1). Although Noah went to great lengths to try and save as many people as he could in his generation, it was all in vain. They were blind to their own sins. Their understanding was blocked and they could not discern that the end was nearly upon them. They treated Noah as if he was crazy and old-fashioned. You can imagine what it must have been like when the people realized Noah was right and his words had come directly from God. They would have run to try and enter the Ark, but it was too late. God had closed the door of the Ark and, what He closes nobody can open. Even though Noah couldn’t see the destruction of that generation, he could hear their unbearable cries. Some died holding on to the ark and desperately knocking for the door to open, but nothing could be done. Noah and his family were analyzing what had just happened in the ark and they said, “God gave them enough time to repent, but they didn’t.” They sat there, remembering how some of their neighbors would come to them and laugh at them due to the ridiculous idea of building an ark, for that generation had never seen a drop of rain. They would have also looked back to when the animals were entering the Ark in couples. One of Noah’s sons said, “Those animals had a better understanding than men.” And Noah added, “Son, that is what sin does. Even when God gives them a clear teaching, they don’t understand.”

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
A boy had built a small wooden boat and he would go down to the river everyday to play with it. He put it into the river and went running down stream to catch it. But one day the current was stronger than usual and the boy couldn’t get to the place where his boat was heading. The current took it away. The boy returned home very sad for the loss of his boat that he loved so much. His daddy tried to comfort him but it was useless. Many days later, while the boy was walking through the city with his father, he saw his boat in a shop window and immediately recognized it. He entered the store with his dad and he bought the boat. While he was holding the boat in his hands, he hugged it and said, “Little boat, you are mine twice over, because I made you and then I bought you.” This is exactly what our dear Redeemer has done for us, when He gave His life for us.
