FAITH OVER FEELINGS

“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations…Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God…”

Romans 4:18, 20

As Christians, we hear about faith so much, that we can very easily think, we “got it.” In reality though, many Christians struggle to walk by faith because they don’t know how to overcome their feelings.

The Lord promised Abraham he would be a father of many nations several different times. He heard from God over and over. Yet, Abraham was caught in his feelings and was on the verge of giving up in Genesis 15 because of the circumstances. Thankfully, he was able to overcome his feelings by having faith and he was blessed because he chose faith over feelings. Faith means complete trust or confidence. It’s a tool God gave to us to access his blessings in every season of life! But there is something that keeps us from God’s blessings: our feelings.

We’ve all gone through difficult situations before. And chances are you’ve been tempted to allow your feelings to make decisions for you. Feelings can lead us into fear, depression, sadness, lust, addiction, unforgiveness and the list goes on. Feelings are real but by no means are they trustworthy or beneficial to our lives. There’s something better that God wants us to follow, and that’s faith!

We have an opportunity in this season to grow in our faith, or to grow in our feelings. I want to encourage everyone in this season of your life, grow in your faith and trust in God! Remember, our faith needs to be in God and in His Word; not in positive thinking, or in people, or in the government. It’s faith in Gods and His Word!

If you’re going through a storm or a problem in your life right now, run away from your feelings and run to trusting in God and His Word completely!

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Pastor Art once told me that “faith has a peace to it.” So, when you start making rash decisions based on feeling and emotion, you can feel anxious, jumpy and worried. Instead, stop, breathe, pray, and speak the word.

When we try to take control of a situation with our feelings, it never really makes a difference. If anything, things get worse. Psalm 10:3 says, “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” This verse tells us that we don’t possess the power to change our situations on our own. The Bible also says in Matthew 6:27, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” This verse tells us worrying doesn’t benefit us. It does the opposite. It steals from us.

So, let’s spend that time thinking about and declaring the Word in faith! Get a few scriptures that you can remember and speak constantly. One I have is Psalm 5:12, “Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” I put my faith and trust in this scripture, and I know God’s favor surrounds me everywhere I go. So, I’m not worried about my finances, or my family, or my job. Instead, I’m encouraged because I know I will see God’s favor everywhere I go. (Branson Silva)
