“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
Matthew 5:5
The meaning of the word “meek” is “moldable.” One of the greatest examples of this is found in the life of Moses. Even though he had a privileged life in Egypt, he felt uncomfortable because of the injustices that he saw being committed against the people of God. That is why he killed an Egyptian for mistreating a Jew. From that moment he became a fugitive of the law. God used these difficult circumstances to begin molding his character as well as preparing him to fulfill his purpose on the earth. After a long period of discipline from God, Moses became the meekest man on earth (Numbers 12:3).
Many times we think we know what’s right. We think that we know what we should do and we forget to consult Jesus, the Light of this world. Others, despite having given their lives to Jesus, still do not allow Him to direct each step that they take. The opposite of being someone who is moldable or teachable, is to be stubborn. In other words, you refuse to change, or will not accept change. This is the attitude that so many of God’s children have. They do not allow their pastor or their leader to teach them how the Lord desires to work in their lives. They refuse to see the blessing that comes from correction.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
The Captain of a certain ship strained his eyes to look as far as he could, but still couldn’t figure out why there were dim lights breaking through the great dark gloom of the night. Immediately, he ordered the radio operator to transmit the following message towards the source of the light, “Change your direction by ten degrees to the south.” Straight away he received the reply, “Change yours ten degrees to the north.” The Captain became furious, because his order had been ignored. So he sent a second message, “I am the Captain. Change your direction ten degrees to the south.” A while later, a reply came, “I am Third Class Sailor Martinez. Change your directions ten degrees to the north.” Trying to instill fear, the Captain responded, “I am in command of a war vessel.” The sailor responded, “I am in command of a lighthouse.”
The way the Lord transforms us is by taking our carnal and sinful nature to the Cross so that it can be completely destroyed there. Then, He devotes Himself to creating a new person within us and we get to be just like Christ. Only the meek have the courage to surrender their lives completely at the Cross so that the Holy Spirit can do His work.
