Today’s Bible Verse
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
James 4:8a (NKJV)
I started writing this sitting in my van at the bay near my home – almost sunset – listening to a song, “Here Again,” by Elevation Worship. While I was driving home from town, I heard these words: Draw near to Me…and I’ll draw near to you! As I passed the bay, I turned around to sit and write, and this song kept looping on my phone. I knew I needed to stop, sit, and listen…
Can’t go back to the beginning, can’t control what tomorrow will bring
But I know here in the middle, is the place where You promise to be
I’m not enough unless You come, will You meet me here again
‘Cause all I want is all You are, will You meet me here again
As I walk now through the valley, let Your love rise above every fear
Like the sun shaping the shadow, in my weakness Your glory appears

These lyrics really spoke to me. We really can’t go back to the beginning, and we can’t control everything that comes tomorrow. But today, the Holy Spirit wanted to assure me that no matter where I am “in the middle,” this is the place He promises to be—with me! Yes, in the midst of this pandemic, whatever challenges we face, valleys we’re walking through, or mountains that need to be removed…be assured, He is with us, here in the middle!
I began to tear as I sat, sang, and reflected on these lyrics. The song became a prayer and my heart’s cry as I drew near to Him, and He drew near to me! In that moment, I realized that’s all He wanted! He just wanted me to draw near, to be comforted, encouraged, loved. And that’s all He wants us to do today. No word definitions, scripture explanations, or bible commentaries. He’s simply saying, draw near! Meet Me Here! (Lani Simmons)
Seize the Moment
Draw near to God today. He’s simply saying, “Meet Me Here!” I invite you to pull up this song and just sit, listen, sing, and be loved. Share your heart with our heavenly Father, and let Him share His. Capture His heart and write down what He shares with you.
Set Your Life
Let this be our determined purpose and heart’s pursuit: Move your heart closer and closer to God, and He will come even closer to you (James 4:8a TPT).
Today’s Declaration
Thank you, Dear Father, Wonderful Jesus, and Sweet Holy Spirit that as I draw near to You, You draw near to me! Our hearts grow closer every day! You have been with me from the beginning; You’re with me here in the middle; You’ll be with me at the end and forever! What a promise! What a gift! What a treasure! I love you, Lord!
