BEWARE OF DISTRACTIONS

Today’s Bible Verse

Beware that no one distracts you or intimidates you in their attempt to lead you away from Christ’s fullness by pretending to be full of wisdom when they’re filled with endless arguments of human logic. For they operate with humanistic and clouded judgments based on the mindset of this world system, and not the anointed truths of the Anointed One.

Colossians 2:8 (TPT)

Beware of Distractions

Throughout the Bible, each writer helps paint a picture to best describe the life of faith as a believer.  The Book of Hebrews describes it as a race or a marathon (see Hebrews 12:1).  The book of Colossians talks about the believer’s journey of faith (see Colossians 2:6). God wants to take every believer on a faith journey, so He can fulfill His call and assignment on our lives

The Apostle Paul is exhorting the Colossian church to continue their faith journey.  He gives a strong exhortation to beware of distractions!  A distraction is defined in the dictionary as a thing that can prevent someone from giving full attention to something else.  Have you been giving your journey of faith your full attention?  Does our assignment from God have our full attention?  If not, the enemy has us distracted.

When we think of things that can distract us, we mainly think of the external things, yet the Apostle Paul gives a different, yet powerful point of view on what distractions are: mindsets that pretend to be full of wisdom when they’re filled with endless arguments of human logic.  Paul continues in Colossians to say that these mindsets are rooted in the world’s system and not Christ (see Colossians 2:8).  What can distract us on this faith journey is not only the external things but also the internal things like mindsets and arguments that go against God’s Word.

Let us remove these distractions by continuing to speak and declare God’s Word over our lives.  Many leaders quote Pastor Kuna’s powerful statement: “We have come this far by faith, so let us keep our faith-press for our future.”  There is so much more that God has for us in our future; let’s not get distracted, and let’s continue our faith press because while our best is at hand, more is to come! (Walter Arguelles)

Change My Story

As a kid, every Saturday, my neighborhood friends and I would always play outside.  It would consist of a game of tag, football, and numerous other random activities that kids would play.  Our parents would always remind us not to play near a certain house because it had a lot of aggressive dogs.  That house had a famous sign that we all have seen before: “Beware of Dogs.”  Of course, as children, we did not listen to our parents, and we were near that house.  One day an aggressive dog escaped and started to chase us!  We all ran for our lives!  Thank God nobody got hurt at that time.

I tell that story because God places godly leadership in our lives to tell us “beware of distractions.”  They warn us, by the Spirit of God, of certain mindsets or arguments (known or unknown) that cause us to be distracted.  They help us to be focused and attentive, so we can go further in this faith journey and fulfill His assignment on our lives!

Today’s Declaration

Lord, I repent of entertaining any distractions in my life.  Thank You for Your blood that cleanses my life in Jesus’ Name.  Today is a new day where I recommit my life to give my FULL ATTENTION to You on this faith journey!  I thank You for placing godly leadership in my life because they help me be focused on You!  I declare that I will keep my faith-press forward, living strong for Jesus!  In Jesus’ Name. Amen!
