“Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all His benefits— Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Psalm 103:1-5

In this Psalm, David reflects upon his life. He motivates his own soul to bless God always, recalling each one of the Lord’s favors. Then, he recalls some of the benefits he received:

1. Forgiveness of sins

Sin is one of the greatest weights that may afflict any human being. Each time we disobey God, and we don’t give heed to His Word, we wander from the correct path. David lived with the huge burden of sin, weighing upon his heart until the prophet Nathan confronted him. After David repented, he heard from the lips of the prophet, “The Lord has forgiven your sin.” In this moment, he experienced full deliverance.

2. Restoration of health and thankfulness

Once he received forgiveness, David felt that his health was restored. When salvation arrives at our homes, it includes our health. Therefore, we shouldn’t allow sickness to touch any of our family members. Infirmity does not come from God. It’s the result of the arguments that the adversary has stored up against us due to sin. For infirmity to come into our lives, the devil looks for someone to open a door to him. This situation occurs when the believer gives room to small indiscretions in his life. For this reason, once we have the assurance that our sins have been forgiven, we should remain firm and resist the devil, and he will flee from our lives (James 4:7).

3. Rescue from death

On many occasions David came close to death. Satan knows the chosen ones of God, and he tries to push them off the path. We ought to understand that a man or woman of God cannot die until they fulfill God’s purpose on earth, for He guards His children in a supernatural way. When David had to face the wild beasts, he was protected. When he fought Goliath, his life was safeguarded. David received God’s support when he went to war and was preserved when King Saul wanted to kill him. Every time David’s adversaries wanted to overthrow him, God kept him. Likewise, this happens for His children when they approach God with a sincere heart.

4. A crown of favor and mercy

God wants to comfort us in the midst of our trials. With love, He opens His arms so that we may surrender and feel the unlimited love and compassion that come from His paternal heart. When we feel loved by God, a powerful security and trust takes a hold of our soul.

5. He satisfies our mouths with good

God wants His children to enjoy all things in abundance, including health as well as spiritual peace. Just as physical healing comes after salvation, financial provision is the result of our relationship with God.

6. He rejuvenates us like eagles

Like eagles renew their feathers, we renew our mindsets and change the way we think, using words of faith and hope. Our vision becomes clearer just like the eagle’s. We can see the fulfillment of our dreams and not give up until we reach them.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Spurgeon ‘embodied’ the words of Welch, who said, “It’s not the measure of your faith that will save you. One drop of water is as real as the water from the oceans. Little faith is equally real as big faith. An eight-year-old kid is as much of a man as someone who is seventy-years-old. The flame of a match is a fire in the same way that a big flame is. A sick man is a living being, just as a person with good health. Therefore, it is not the measure of your faith that saves you; it’s the blood that you cling to. Just as a small child brings a shaky hand to his mouth when first learning to eat, so too does the strong man bring a spoon to his mouth, for it is not the hand that feeds, but the food that is taken into the mouth and then goes into the stomach. That’s how it is if you adhere to Christ. Although you may be weak, he will never let you perish. The weakest hand can take a gift just as the strongest hand can. Therefore, Christ is the gift, and weak faith can cling to Him just as strong faith does. Christ is as much yours when you have a weak faith as He is when you come with triumphant joy and great faith.”
