BRING PEOPLE BACK TO LIFE

David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. […] And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him.

1 Samuel 22:1-2 (NKJV)

David was the most famous person in Israel and its most fearless warrior. Most people in his position would have their pick of the best and the brightest to allow into their inner circle. And yet, David did the opposite of what most people would have done. He took in those who society was most ashamed of. The distressed, indebted and discontented gathered around him and he took them in. He became a father to them and worked at bringing the best out of them. And although David believed in them, it was his faith in God’s power to restore people’s lives that enabled him to bring them back to life. And when he did, none of them would be the same again. He was convinced that God’s power was greater than people’s problems.
