Today’s Bible Verse
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.
Revelation 3:20-21 (NLT)
Can You Hear Him Knocking?
As we read this verse, Jesus is inviting us to “share a meal” (fellowship) with Him; He is standing at our door (heart), knocking, waiting to see if we will let Him in. The first reason we pray is to invite God into our hearts. God won’t kick down the door and walk right in; He is a gentleman, so He ever so gently knocks at our heart and patiently waits for us to open the door. Daily prayer is the key to a friendship with God. Prayer is true intimacy with God. The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:6, “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”
When should we pray? The Bible tells us to pray always: 1 Chronicles 16:11, “Look to the Lord and His strength, seek his face always.”
As you pray and invite God in, things will start to change the moment you allow Jesus into your heart. Prayer allows God to move and work things out on our behalf. It is in prayer and reading the Bible that He shows us His will for our lives. (Sergio Tarin)
An Uncommon Life
As I was studying the above verses, I began reflecting on Jesus’ “profession.” Jesus was a carpenter, so I looked up the actual definition and job duties of one: carpenter—“a worker who builds or repairs.”
Jesus is knocking at our heart; He knows what we need. He is looking to build us up and repair the wounds, anger, resentment, disappointment, and everything stunting our growth in Him. He is the healer! Jesus is still showing up today, knocking and saying, “If you let me in, I will clean up. I’ll guide you and help you go in the right direction. I will heal your heart, and I will restore you. Just open the door and let Me in.”
Today’s Declaration
Lord, I come before You, and I invite You, Jesus, to come into my heart. I need Your direction for my life. Remove everything that doesn’t belong in my heart and heal all wounds. I declare that Your Spirit lives in me, and because of it, I am victorious. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
