This Week’s Memory Verse
Today I am giving you a choice of two ways. And I ask heaven and earth to be witnesses of your choice. You can choose life or death. The first choice will bring a blessing. The other choice will bring a curse. So choose life! Then you and your children will live.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (ERV)
Choose to Obey
Hey Kids!
Every one of us wants to obey God. Right?! Don’t you want to obey God in everything that God tells you to do in the Bible? For example, the Bible says to obey your parents, submit to your leaders, forgive others, be kind to each other! It’s easy to say “YES” to God, but when it comes to the time to obey, it doesn’t seem as easy.
God gave us a free will to choose life or death, blessings or cursing. Choosing life is obeying God and choosing death is not obeying God’s Word. When we don’t obey what God says, we are choosing the blessings from God to stop. It doesn’t seem like you are choosing the blessings to stop when you are having a great time with your friends watching Kidz Life Live on YouTube when your mom said go to bed. It doesn’t seem like you are choosing the blessings to stop when you are having so much fun playing your favorite video game after your dad told you to do your homework. The truth is we are stopping all of God’s blessings to come into our lives when we disobey.
When we choose to not obey instead of choosing to obey, you are putting up a wall between you and God. It’s like this…imagine there is a door on your heart. Can you see that door? Suddenly, there’s a knock on your door (KNOCK, KNOCK) and it’s Jesus telling you to obey your parents and your leaders and forgive those that have hurt you and be kind. Do you know what happens when you choose to not obey even if it is just for one more second? You slam shut the door on God!! Yikes! You wouldn’t do that if God was at your front door of your house, right?!!! But that’s what happens when we don’t obey.
Disobedience gives the devil, our enemy, permission to come in and stop all the blessings to come to you.
Noah is an example to us that we can obey God no matter how hard it is. It wasn’t easy for Noah to build the Ark, or cut down all that wood to build the Ark. He didn’t have a chain saw, or a sander, or a tape measurer like your dad or mom has. It wasn’t easy when there was no rain in sight and all his neighbors and friends teased him for obeying God. But he did it anyway. Noah brought blessings and protection not only to his life but to his whole family and to us too. He showed us that no matter how hard it might seem to obey God, we can CHOOSE to honor God by obeying His Word in the Bible right away.
Pledge of Honor
I will obey God’s Word, my parents, and my leaders right away. When I obey, a powerful shield of protection and blessing surrounds me and my family.
This Week’s Bible Reading
