CONQUER YOUR MOUNTAINS

Today’s Bible Verse

Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

Zechariah 4:6 (NLT)

Conquer Your Mountains

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and theologian, said, “The Church is only the Church when they exist for others.”  What a powerful statement!  The Church’s identity is to live for others by making an impact in their lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  God’s dream is all about the Great Commission, to win souls and make disciples!  This is living the Uncommon life for Jesus and I believe this should be every believer’s main pursuit in life.

Yet that may not be the case for everyone because of many reasons.  We may say, “I’m too busy” or “Someone else can do it.”  Sometimes we may get overwhelmed, or we may face certain obstacles that may seem hard to overcome.  Or we may have certain fears, inadequate, or personal insecurities that may hinder us in pursuing God’s dream.

Zerubbabel is someone that was in the same situation we may be in.  Zerubbabel was given the task to rebuild God’s temple.  While building the temple, he faced many challenges, yet the prophet Zechariah reminded Zerubbabel how to fulfill His assignment from God.  He mentions that it’s, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord”.  To live out God’s uncommon life, it has to be done ONLY by the power of the Holy Spirit.  When we put our trust in ourselves we will always fall short, but when we put our trust in Christ (the Anointed One and His Anointing), He enables us to live out His Uncommon Life and fulfill His assignment in winning souls and making disciples. (Walter Arguelles)

An Uncommon Life

In Zechariah 4:7 (NKJV) says, “Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!  And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” There was a mountain before Zerubbabel when he was building the temple of the Lord, and that mountain was made in a plain because he shouted, “Grace, Grace!” It was the grace of his identity (knowing who he was as a believer) and grace in his authority (knowing the power he had as a believer).

What mountain is before you as a believer?  What mountain do you have to conquer so you can share the love of Christ with your family, friends, co-workers, etc.?  What mountain do you have to conquer to open your Life Group and build your team of 12?  When we understand our identity in Christ, and the power we have in Christ, we can speak to our mountains (as Jesus commanded us to do in Mark 11) and it will be made a plain before us!

Ask the Lord to show you what mountains you need to conquer.  When He shows it to you, speak to it in the name of Jesus and command it to be made into a plain!

Today’s Declaration

Lord, I repent if I have ever trusted in my own self to fulfill Your assignment.  I declare, I will live Your Uncommon Life in winning souls and making disciples!  It will be not by might, nor by power, but by Your Spirit and Your Anointing in Jesus’ Name!  I speak to every mountain that is hindering me to be made plain now in Jesus’ Name!  I am called and anointed to live uncommon!
