DELIGHT IN THE LORD

DEVOTIONAL-GRAPHIC-1600x900_22

“What delight comes to the one who follows God’s ways! [She] won’t walk in step with the wicked, nor share the sinner’s way, nor be found sitting in the scorner’s seat. [Her] pleasure and passion is remaining true to the Word of “I Am,” meditating day and night in the true revelation of light. [She] will be standing firm like a flourishing tree planted by God’s design, deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss, bearing fruit in every season of [her] life. [She] is never dry, never fainting, ever blessed, ever prosperous.”

Psalm 1:1-3 (TPT)

According to this promise, when we follow after God and live as He designed and purposed, we will delight (take pleasure, joyful, love, savor) in Him and in all that we do. Our delight is not limited to our relationship with Him, it overflows and spills onto every aspect of our lives. Our decision to seek God, and His way of doing and being right, course corrects and resets our lives. Our appetite for the things of this world diminishes and opens the flood gates of our hearts to passionately pursue the Word of God.

This synergy of pursuit, delight and passion in God creates an ideal environment for explosive growth where faith and trust in God increases by hearing and hearing and hearing the Word of God. So what are we waiting for? It’s time to run to our secret place where meditation on the Word captures the heart of God and the spotlight of revelation, divine understanding and wisdom of who we are and whose we are.

In God’s presence in the secret place, we discover that we are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We stand tall like flourishing trees with deep roots planted and fed by the living water, the Spirit of God, flowing out of hearts redeemed by God to bless, help and serve others. We are called to be a light to this world, a life-giving force leading others out of darkness into His marvelous light. We are fruitful, empowered, prosperous, free, loved and valued beyond measure.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
I’m forever thankful to God for redirecting my life. I was like that sinner in Psalm 1, on the brink of divorce, lost in a world of chaos, self-centered, insecure, fearful, prideful, bitter and manipulative. But God showed me a better way, a way out; all I had to do was say, YES, LORD. This new life was foreign and made absolutely no sense in my mind, yet in my desperation for change and peace I knew, contrary to everything familiar, this was exactly what I needed.

This radical way of living, thinking and speaking the Word, ancient but relevant, old but new, put an end to my old life that was conformed to the world and its lustful desires. I am now a new creation in Christ, old things have passed away, behold everything is new (2Corinthians 5:17)! My delight is in the Lord and I have been cleansed and empowered to draw near to Jesus who said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. NOW GO in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age” (Matthew 28:18-20 TPT). YES LORD, SEND ME to change my generation for your glory! (Julie Nurre)
