Today’s Bible Verse
“Yes, my soul, finds rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God. He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.”
Psalm 62:5-8
Finding Rest in God Alone
In this chapter, David finds himself being persecuted, and he decides to place his complete expectation on no one else, but God alone. We may not find ourselves under persecution; however, there are many challenges that surround us on a daily basis that could weigh us down. We hear all that is going on in our nation today… sickness, disease, financial lack, relationships, etc. The question is, who are we placing our trust in? Our own strength? Our job security? Our spouse? Or are we placing our absolute trust in the Lord. His Word tells us that we are to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us.
Just like David placed his complete expectation on God, we too must see God as our protector and ultimate source. He alone will protect us from all evil. He is our strong fortress and in Him we are safe (Psalm 18:2). We may be faced with temptations to place our trust in other people or things, but we need to keep our eyes and expectation in God alone. In verse 8 David tells us to, “Trust in God at all times…to pour our hearts to Him, for He is our refuge.” God is a God of Love, who is loyal and good to his children.
If we place our trust in God, we shall be secure. We will experience the peace and rest in Him that He desires us to have. In His promises, we can receive spiritual strength and nourishment as we meditate on His word. Our souls can be revived and built up. In this place of rest, God can work in us and guide us with His wisdom. He is our Shepherd and we are His sheep. We are to be dependent upon Him, for He is our protector and our guide. He leads our every step in our faith filled journey.
Something to Think About
Are you anxious? Do you feel lost or confused? Find rest in Him alone. Cast your cares upon Him, speak God’s promises and do not tolerate doubt or unbelief. Persevere in faith and keep your eyes on Jesus. If God be for you, nothing can stand against you. If you have given God your problems, it is not your job to figure it out. You just need to rest and trust in Him. He will give you the wisdom, favor and blessing that you need.
To rest, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is to be free from anxiety or disturbance, to remain confident.
Three months ago, my husband, Pastor Wally, left for Japan. There were a few friends that asked me why he was leaving in the midst of the pandemic. I told them because God has called us there and this is the time for him to go. Isaiah, our son and I have remained in Honolulu, keeping our eyes on God’s Word. Trusting that He will have us reunited soon. I choose to rest in God each and every day, knowing that God’s plan for my family and I is perfect. God alone is my salvation, my rock, my strength, and my refuge. God is good and He is faithful. We are victorious in Him. (Pastor Patti Matanza, Word of Life Yokohama)
Today’s Declaration
