“Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.”

Numbers 12:3

God used many things to shape the life of Moses; divine grace, patience, His love as well as His mighty hand. He became a meek, humble, wise man who was entrusted with a great responsibility. There are two ways that you can serve God and do His work. The first way is in your own strength. The second is by relying on His unlimited strength. When Moses acted based on his own will, he had to go to the wilderness where God took some time to deal with his heart. But when he learned to rely on God, he became the great leader who was used by God to bring freedom to millions of people who wereenslavedin Egypt. Today, you must learn to trust in the Lord with all ofyourheart, and lean noton your own understanding.

Moses felt a great responsibility to care for the people over whom God had made him leader. He was so preoccupied with their needs that he set aside one day every week to take care of these concerns. He knew that he would always have a fresh word from God for their lives. Jethro, his father-in-law, saw how Moses was working so hard to take care of the peoples’ need. He showed him a better way. He taught Moses to share the load of leadership with those who he knew would be responsible and up to the task. So Moses would not be so stressed out with all the people that were coming to him for counsel. Moses understood this and decided to do it diligently. God was pleased with this decision and He took some of the power of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the 70 elders (Numbers 11:5). Moses understood that this way the work would be much more productive and efficient.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
We say that a truly humble man is hard to find. However, God delights in honoring people who are not interested in promoting themselves. Booker T. Washington, the renowned black educator, was an extraordinary example of this truth. Shortly after assuming the presidency of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, he was walking in an exclusive area of town when he was stopped by a rich white lady. She didn’t know the famous Washington, so she asked if he would like to make a few dollars by chopping wood. At the time Professor Washington had nothing to do, so he smiled, rolled up his sleeves and started doing the humble work that was requested of him. When finished, he carried the wood inside the house and put it next to the fireplace. But in the process a little girl recognized him and later revealed his identity to the women. The very next day so embarrassed the lady went to see Mr. Washington in his office and apologized. He reply, “It is all right, Madam. Sometimes I like to do some exercise; and it is always a pleasure to do a favor for a friend.” The lady took his hand and express that she was very moved by his act of kindness and the grace that he had in all the work he was doing. He had truly touched her heart. Shortly after this, the rich lady persuaded many of her very wealthy acquaintances and they all gave millions of dollars as a donation for the Tuskegee Institute.
