LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

Memory Verse

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. The person who follows Me will never live in darkness. He will have the light that gives life.”

John 8:12 (ICB)

Light in the Darkness

Hey Kids!

What happens when you turn on the light in a dark room?  Yes, you are right! When you turn on the light, darkness disappears.  Do you know why?  Because light is stronger than darkness.

Jesus is the light.  He placed His light inside of you.  Do you know why God gave you such an important part of Him?  Because He wants you to shine His light for others to find their way out of darkness.

Yes, that’s right, you were created and designed by God to be a light in your generation.  Like a flashlight, or a car light, or a lighthouse, you were made to help show the way to save lives.

There’s a story of a brave captain of a little boat that went out to a deep and dark ocean searching for a boat that was sinking.  After searching in the cold and dark ocean, he found the sinking boat with 32 people on it.  His little boat could only hold 12 people, but the captain had faith and placed all 32 people on his little boat.  He rescued them from drowning in the freezing ocean.  But now he had to get them back safely to land.  Every one of his boat lights were broken and destroyed by the fierce waves.  There was darkness all around and the captain could not see which way to get back to the land.  How was he to save the lives of these men with out light to show him where to go?  Suddenly, he saw a dim light far away, then a second light, and a third light!  There was a long row of lights showing him the way back to land.  Guess where the lights were coming from?  It was coming from the headlights of the cars from the people in that town.

In the same way, you, were created to help save others too!  You are called and chosen by God to shine your light to show people the way to Jesus.  Your light shines bright when you do what is right and you invite others to ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior and inviting them to church and Life Group.  So be brave like the captain of the little boat and shine the light of Jesus in you!

Pledge of Honor

My Heavenly Father chose me to be a light in my generation.

Today’s Bible Reading

ISAIAH 42:6 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

The Lord says, “I called you to do right. And I will hold your hand. I will protect you. You will be the sign of my agreement with the people. You will be a light to shine for all people.

ISAIAH 49:6B International Children’s Bible (ICB)

But, more importantly, I will make you a light for all nations. You will show people all over the world the way to be saved.”

MATTHEW 5:15-17 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

15 And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put the light on a lampstand. Then the light shines for all the people in the house. 16 In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do. Live so that they will praise your Father in heaven.

1 JOHN 1:5-9 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

Here is the message we have heard from God and now tell to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. So if we say that we have fellowship with God, but we continue living in darkness, then we are liars. We do not follow the truth. God is in the light. We should live in the light, too. If we live in the light, we share fellowship with each other. And when we live in the light, the blood of the death of Jesus, God’s Son, is making us clean from every sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  But if we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. We can trust God. He does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrongs we have done.
