PERSEVERING IN THE DREAM

“So Pharaoh asked them, ‘Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?’”

Genesis 41:38

Reading about the things Joseph had to go through in his life motivates us to keep moving forward day by day. In the midst of struggles we have to keep pushing on to make our dreams become a reality.

The Lord gave Joseph a dream. It clearly revealed the course that his life would take; God’s wonderful plan for him. When Joseph shared this dream with his brothers, they did not take it well because he was one of the youngest in the family. Since he was the father’s favorite, they assumed that he was going to try and take advantage of that privilege to control them all. As a result they angrily rejected him and everything he said (Genesis 37:5).

Again the Lord visited Joseph in another dream, and again he candidly shared it with his brothers. This made

them even angrier and they rose up against him. They said, “‘Do you intend to reign or rule over us?’ And they hated him even more because of his dream and how passionately he spoke about them. Another dream came, and he described it to his father and brothers, “Listen I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me” (Genesis 37:8-9). His brothers were completely outraged and his father scolded him and tried to persuade him that the dreams he had were impossible.

How many years had to pass by, until what God had shown Joseph was fulfilled? What could Joseph have been thinking when he saw his brothers appear in Egypt looking for food? They did not know who he was, and they even bowed down in reverence to him. Maybe he had a moment of gratitude towards God, witnessing how no man could oppose the fulfillment of God-given dreams.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
When the dream of God is given to somebody, in general, it is accompanied by faith, patience and perseverance. For the people who receive this dream, and who cling to it, it becomes a powerful anchor that will keep them firm through times of adversity. When the dream comes from God, you are able to succeed and keep moving forward, but when it is from man it is submerged under the storms of life. Joseph lived through all kinds of tests and conquered, because he never took his eyes off the objective.
