Acts 2:38b-39a (ICB)

Power & Fire

Hey Kids!

Can you count how many things you own that need power to work or to operate?  Let’s start naming some of those things: a car, a refrigerator, cell phone, tv, iPad, Nintendo Switch and flashlight.  They all need something like gas, electricity, and batteries that will give it the power to work.

What happens when a car has no gas?  You can’t go to the beach, to Kidz Life at church, or visit Grandma or Grandpa!  What happens when a cell phone is not charged?  Yikes, you can’t watch Kidz Life Live, can’t text your mom to bring home pizza and ice cream….uggh!  What happens when there’s no batteries in the flashlight?  Oh no, you can’t go crab hunting or find our way out of the jungle!!!  Do you see that all these things must be filled with power for it to do what it was made to do?

We too, need power so we can do the great and mighty things for God!  Or we can just be ordinary and silent.  But God made you and I to speak boldly and tell others about Jesus, to be extraordinary and amazing in helping others, to be bold and fearless…to standout and stand up for God and His Word in what you say and do.  What do you choose to do and be?

On the day of Pentacost, the disciples were waiting in the upper room, just as Jesus told them to do.  What were they waiting for?  Why was this so important?  They were waiting to receive the promise from God!  The promise of POWER and FIRE!  Suddenly there was a sound from heaven like a mighty rushing wind and it filled the place where they were!  Then, there were flames of fire that appeared and rested upon each of them.  When these things happened, the disciples were filled with power and fire of God and they began to preach and teach about Jesus with power.  They were able to do things that they had never done before because of the power of the Holy Spirit in them. This is the power we need!

Do you want this power of God on your life?  Let’s pray.Let’s pray this prayer:  Father I come to you in Jesus Name.  Thank you for the free gift of the Holy Spirit.  I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit, and give me my new heavenly language.  Now that I am filled with the Power and Fire of the Holy Spirit, I will GO and tell everyone about Jesus and do great and mighty things for God. Amen.

Pledge of Honor

I have the power and the fire of the Holy Spirit in me and on me to tell everyone about Jesus. I can do great and mighty things for God.

Today’s Bible Reading

Acts 2:1-4 (ICB)

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a noise came from heaven. It sounded like a strong wind blowing. This noise filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw something that looked like flames of fire. The flames were separated and stood over each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak different languages. The Holy Spirit was giving them the power to speak these languages.

Acts 2:38-39 (ICB)

Peter said to them, “Change your hearts and lives and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is for you. It is also for your children and for all who are far away. It is for everyone the Lord our God calls to himself.”

Acts 5:12-15 (ICB)

The apostles did many signs and miracles among the people. And they would all meet together on Solomon’s Porch. None of the others dared to stand with them. All the people were saying good things about them. More and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to the group of believers. As Peter was passing by, the people brought their sick into the streets. They put their sick on beds and mats so at least Peter’s shadow might fall on them.
