RECEIVING THE BEST OF GOD

“Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.”

Jeremiah 33:6

When God created us, He made us three-in-one beings: spirit, soul and body. It is in the soul where our minds, emotions and will are found. This is where we find just about everything that we would say defines us as human beings. For example, this is where we can find our greatest human qualities such as the capacity to love, feel, and make decisions. When God created us, He made us unique as individuals. Consequently, each person possesses their own special identity. So then, we must guard our soul with all our strength. One tactic of the enemy is to try and damage our self-esteem. He often tries to do this through people who are closest to us, using them to not only hurt us with their words and actions, but if possible, to try and destroy our very souls as well.

The deepest wounds in the hearts of human beings are produced by rejection. The effects that these types of emotional attacks cause are very serious, because in most cases they affect our self-esteem. Not even time can heal these wounds. Jesus told us the parable of the Good Samaritan. It is the story where one man came to help another who had been left injured by wicked people. The injured man would no doubt have felt extremely grateful to the Samaritan who, unlike the priest and the Levite, had interrupted his daily activities, stopping to help this wounded stranger who lay in despair and pain. At that point the injured traveler did not know whether he was going to live or die but the Samaritan helped him anyway, which only increased his thankfulness.

The Good Samaritan did not come with a list of rules to find out if he should help this poor man or not, or make him commit to his beliefs. He simply served another fellow human-being in need, using two things, oil and wine. The wine served as an antiseptic and spiritually we could say is a picture or representation of Jesus’ blood. The oil was used to soothe his wounds and can be seen as symbolic of the presence of the Holy Spirit. This is how the beginning of restoration occurs.

Through the prophet Jeremiah, God said, “This is what the LORD says: Your wound is incurable, your injury beyond healing” (Jeremiah 30:12). God saw the spiritual condition in which His people were living at that time. In response, He spoke to them with the following words. “Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security” (Jeremiah 33:6). Sinners can only get to know God’s medicine when His servants administer it. That is why it is important to win someone for Christ and take them to an Encounter. This is the place where they can receive the medicine that will heal them.

When someone is injured, an antiseptic is quickly administered in order to prevent infection. Just as it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual. A physical wound can become infected if not treated quickly, and so can an injured soul. A spiritual or an emotional wound that goes untreated with divine healing may lead to ‘inflammation’ of the soul with bitterness, hatred, vengeance, depression, loneliness, sadness, or many other negative consequences.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
I remember the day when my father-in-law came to our home, and I could see an expression of pain in his face. The doctor had told him that he had cancer, and he was holding the results of the tests. I know that nobody wants to hear this diagnosis. Nevertheless, he showed the positive attitude that always characterized him, he told us, “I trust God, and I know things will turn out well.” The following week he came back to say, “I asked the Lord to do a miracle in my health and to confirm it in His Word. He gave me the same word that the prophet Isaiah said to the king Hezekiah. God said that his life would be extended fifteen years.” A few months later, he had no sign of cancer, it was all gone. However, fifteen years later, he suddenly fell ill and went to be with the Lord after a few days.
