Today’s Bible Verse
“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers…”
Acts 13:36 (NKJV)
Serve Your Generation
One of the great heroes of the faith that had a generational mindset was King David. Scripture says in Acts 13:36, “For David…served his own generation by the will of God.”
One of the ways he served his generation was by preparing his son, Solomon (the next generation), for success. David made tremendous sacrifices and preparations to see God’s will carried on in the next generation:
Now listen, with great trouble I have prepared and provided for the house of the Lord 100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weighing, for they are great in quantity. I have also prepared and provided timber and stone, and you may add to them. Further, you have workmen in abundance: stonecutters and stonemasons and carpenters, and all men who are skillful in every kind of work. As for the gold, the silver, the bronze, and the iron, there is no limit. So arise and begin working… (1Chron 22:14-16 emphasis added)
May this stir you to have a generational mindset. God’s Vision is about reaching generations for Christ—to win souls and make disciples who will continue to run with God’s vision on the earth even when you go home to heaven to be with the Lord.
A generational mindset:
1. Prepares and Provides. David saved what could have been spent because he wanted Solomon to be successful.
2. Believes there are no limits. David dreamed big. He refused to be contained. If God wants us to build His house, let’s do it with excellence and not limit what God wants to do.
3. Takes action. David charged his son to start building, to arise and begin working!
