Today’s Bible Verse
And [Jesus] said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? The Sower sows the word.”
Mark 4:13-14 (NKJV)
The Bag of Seed
A parable is a brief story from everyday life told by way of an analogy to illustrate a spiritual truth. Here’s my take on this parable. Many years ago, I heard a song called, The Wildwood Weed. It was about two country boys who were walking in a field of tall grass. One of the boys reached down and pulled up a weed to chew on. As he chewed on the weed, he began to get happy, and feeling high, and feeling carefree. He started giggling. His brother looked at him and said, “What’s happening to you? Your eyes are turning red and glassy! He responded, “I don’t know. I was just chewing on this weed.” The brother said, “Let me give it a try.” The brother began to experience the same feelings.
That day on the farm, life was different for these two country boys. They experienced something they never experienced before. Well, they began to plant the seeds and harvest those cute little weeds. Until one day, a federal agent stopped by and saw what they were growing, and said, “Those plants you call weeds are not legal to grow.” So, the agent called the county Sheriff’s department, and they came out and began to dig up and burn all their cute little weeds, until they were all gone. When they finished, they packed up all their equipment and as they began to drive off, the two country boys just sat on their porch and smiled and waved to the officers as they drove by, sitting there on those sacks of seed! An Uncommon Life
Years ago, God reminded me of this song, and said to me, “The enemy can take and burn all you have, just don’t let him take your seed. Your Bible, the Word of God, is a bag of seed, and your heart is the soil.”
As I mentioned earlier, JESUS said if we don’t understand the Parable of the Sower, we won’t understand how spiritual laws work. The book of Genesis establishes the seed principle. It says in Genesis 8:22, “…while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.”
Jesus said in Mark 4:26-28, “…the kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head.”
Everything starts with a seed, and every seed produces after its own kind. The words we speak are seeds. If you don’t like the life you are living, check out the seeds you’ve been sowing.
Today’s Declaration
Heavenly Father, today I choose to sow Your Word into my heart. The seed of Your Word is incorruptible, indestructible, ever-living and never-failing. It IS life-producing and it will ALWAYS produce a harvest of righteousness for me.
