THE BLESSING OF WAITING

06_29

“The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they wait on Him.”

Psalm 37:40

All men of God whose extraordinary stories are recorded in the Bible were characterized by their faith. But what is it that enabled them to make a difference? It was their obedience to the Word.

The Apostle Paul said, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). When a person begins to read the Scriptures, immediately in the spiritual world an order of faith is sent to go and be with that person. Faith comes or is activated only when there is contact with the Word.

Men of God learned to hear the Lord. They believed in His word; they didn’t question it, nor did they redefine it. They simply obeyed it exactly as God had spoken it. Their great conquests took place, because despite the fact that the circumstances were against them, they trusted and rested in the promises of God. So, when faith comes, it is important to trust, hope and wait in Him. This characteristic must be deeply rooted in the heart of every believer. Again and again the Bible tells us to trust, hope and wait on the Lord.

Abraham was a man who knew how to wait on God. He had the promise that he would conceive a child. Although he and his wife grew old without successfully conceiving, they continued to rely on God. Believing in hope against all hope he saw his miracle become a reality. For this reason he became the father of faith, because he learned to wait patiently on God (Romans 4:18).

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
God always acts with precise timing, never too late, and never ahead of schedule. Sometimes people get frustrated, lose patience, take the wrong steps and throw it all away. An example of this was Saul, who didn’t wait for the appointed time. Samuel told him that he would go to his ‘encounter’, but because Samuel was late returning, Saul decided to seek the answer from God on his own initiative. He broke the Law. He went against an important principle when he offered a sacrifice, which he shouldn’t have done, because it was something that only a priest could do. After offering the sacrifice, Samuel arrived and rebuked him because of his impatience. As a result, Saul lost everything.

“You acted foolishly,” Samuel said, “You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you, if you had, He would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. But now your kingdom will not endure” (1Samuel 13:13-14).

God draws near to those who learn and know how to wait on Him.
