THE KEY OF LIFE

Today’s Bible Verse

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

The Key of Life

In every relationship, there is one key factor. In a marriage. As a parent. As a sibling. In a friendship, etc… Without this one key factor, the chances of survival in these relationships are slim to none. Most likely, none. This precious key is the foundation upon which most relationships are built, relationships with the correct motives, that is. I’m certain you’ve guessed it by now. That key factor is love.

The Bible tells us that we have a choice to make each and every day. We either choose life or death, blessings or cursings. Certainly, we all would adamantly say, “Well that’s easy; I’ll take life and blessings!” However, the Bible also tells us how to make this choice. It gives us the answer: “You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying Him, and committing yourself firmly to Him.”

Love Him. Obey Him. Commit to Him. When we love Him, we obey Him, and when we obey Him, we are committing to His ways, not ours. Scripture states, “committing yourself firmly to Him.” There is no wiggle room here. There are no other options. There is no door number three. When we commit firmly, we are doing the surrender. We are dying to self and living for Him! Now, that’s a firm commitment! We can say that we choose life and that we choose blessings, but are we following through with His way?

Imagine if we were missing this KEY in any of our earthly relationships. If we chose one day to not love, obey, or commit to those we love, what would that relationship look like? Rest assured that it would not be one that would have longevity. But, when we love and obey God, not only are we in relationship with Him, but He promises us long life! This is the kind of life we long to live!

In verse 11 of the same chapter, it says, “This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach.” What a comforting and encouraging word! We know that living a life for Christ isn’t a weighty one or a burdensome one. Quite the contrary my friends! It’s a life of freedom, a life filled with blessings and assurance that the life we have laid down is incomparable to the life given for each and every one of us—that is the life of Jesus Christ!  (Pastor Annette Sagarnaga, Word of Life Arizona)

An Uncommon Life

Can I lay hold of today by not only choosing life and blessings, but by following through with the Key of Life? Have I been mindful and purposeful to love, obey, and commit firmly to the Father? What can I do this very moment to course-correct those areas in my life that I haven’t fully committed to Him?

Run to the Father! He desires our love and obedience. He desires our unwavering commitment.  He desires our whole hearts and full surrender! He wants the very best for us just as a mother and father want for their children. How much more does our heavenly Father want for us? More than we could ever imagine or comprehend!

Today’s Declaration

Lord, I choose life today! I make this choice by loving You, obeying You, and committing firmly to You, my King! It is not too difficult, and it is certainly not beyond my reach! I know that You are with me and for me and that with You all things are possible! You are the KEY to my life! Thank You, Father! In Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen!
