Today’s Bible Verse
Now, when the king entered the banquet hall, he looked with glee over all his guests. But then he noticed a guest who was not wearing the wedding robe provided for him. So he said, “My friend, how is it that you’re here and you’re not wearing your wedding garment?” But the man was speechless.
Matthew 22:11-12 (TPT)
The Kingdom’s Dress Code
Self-examination is not an easy thing, neither does it come naturally. It seems that we are all born with the “gift” of examining others, but when it comes to our own lives it’s an entirely different story. However, this year I want things to be different, so I want to start by examining my own life.
The scripture above tells a very sobering story. It is very possible for someone to be “in” and not be dressed up in excellence. It is possible for anyone to go through the motions and check all the blocks, yet our hearts are not fully surrendered to God’s will. Its is very possible that we can fall into the trap of “doing what’s familiar” without becoming the person God wants us to be.
In several places, the Bible makes reference to the garment of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10, Psalm 132:9 & Job 29:14). Righteousness means, right standing with God. And righteousness is a gift that emanates from God’s unconditional love. I have to receive it as a gift, birthed out of God’s goodness. The tendency is for us to work hard for things in life. Sorry, righteousness doesn’t work that way. I must receive it as a gift; otherwise, it’s not righteousness. (Pastor Lilly Montano, Word of Life Santa Barbara)
An Uncommon Life
I want to encourage you to start this year by asking yourself three blunt questions:
1. Am I dressed properly? Do I rely on my serving, or is my serving the byproduct of my surrender?
2. Am I trusting my own familiar abilities? Do I allow God to prune me and grow me in this new season?
3. Am I willing to let go of what I “see” in order to experience what I don’t see?
Today’s Declaration
Father, in the Name of Jesus, I pray that this year You’ll take me to a level of surrender where every boundary is removed, every insecurity is demolished, and ever fear destroyed by the power of Your Word. I chose to abandon my dreams, my desires and familiar territory to embark on the new season You’ve prepare for me in 2022. I love You Jesus!
