This Week’s Memory Verse
The Lord is my Shepherd; I have all that I need.
Psalm 23:1 (NLT)
The Lord is My Shepherd
Hey Kids!
Did you know that God wants you to be like a sheep? Yeah, you know the animal on four legs with cotton-like wool on their body. The animal that says, “Baaaaa! Baaaa!” Does God want us to be like a sheep because God wants us to talk like a sheep? Or is it because God wants us to look like a sheep? No, He wants us to act like a sheep!
God made all sheep to need and depend on their shepherd to live. The sheep needs a shepherd to lead them to their food, or they will starve and die. The sheep needs the shepherd to even cut the wool off their body and face, so their eyes can see and so it’s not too hard for them to walk. The sheep depend on their shepherd for everything. And that’s the way that God wants us to be with Him, just like the sheep!
Jesus and the Holy Spirit want to be our shepherds. They want to teach you, to direct you, to guide you, and to show you things that you cannot see. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life, the only way to God.
Only you can allow Him to be your Shepherd. You might be thinking, “How can Jesus be my Shepherd when I can’t see Him?” “How will I follow Him?” Well, God gave you His Word in the Bible to lead you and instruct you. When you listen and obey God’s Word then you are letting Jesus be your Shepherd. When you listen and obey what your pastors and godly leaders instruct you to do, you are also letting Jesus be your Shepherd.
A shepherd provides all that you need. He gives you only what is good for you. He loves and cares for you. He leads you in the right direction for your life. He’s with you and helps you even in the most hardest times! So, you don’t have to be afraid.
Who is your shepherd? Is it your friends, the tv shows, YouTube videos, your favorite sports player? Or is it Jesus? Who do you listen to and follow?
If you say that Jesus is your shepherd, then you will obey God’s Word and His godly leaders. You will come under God’s powerful covering, like a gigantic umbrella, that will protect you from any danger and God’s goodness and love will be with you all your life.
If you go your own way and do your own thing and end up in the wrong direction and lost. Even then, when we make mistakes and get lost, Jesus your good and loving Shepherd will search for you and bring you back home safely.
This Week’s Pledge of Honor
I am a hero because I follow Jesus as my Shepherd. He leads me to obey God’s Word. Surely God’s goodness and love will be with me all my life. And I will live in the House of the Lord forever.
This Week’s Bible Reading
PSALM 23:1-6 (ICB)
The Lord is my shepherd.
I have everything I need.
He gives me rest in green pastures.
He leads me to calm water.
He gives me new strength.
For the good of his name,
he leads me on paths that are right.
Even if I walk through a very dark valley,
I will not be afraid
because you are with me.
Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me.
You prepare a meal for me
in front of my enemies.
You pour oil of blessing on my head.
You give me more than I can hold.
Surely your goodness and love will be with me all my life.
And I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
