THE MENTOR

This Week’s Memory Verse

Obey your leaders and accept their authority. They take care of you because they are responsible for you.

Hebrews 13:17 (GW)

The Mentor

Hey Kids!

Have you ever done something you were told not to do, but you did it anyway?  Yeah, like your parents told you, “Don’t touch the stove when it’s hot!”, but you chose to touch it anyway?  What happens?  You get burned, right?!  Or your parents say, “Stop playing video games and watching YouTube, and do your homework,” but you don’t listen and obey.  So, then your teacher tells you that you will fail your class and now you have to go to summer school.  Yikes, all because you didn’t obey your parents!

The choices you make will either bless you or hurt you.  Sometimes we don’t know the right choices to make.  And other times we think we know what’s best for us but it’s not.  That’s why God gave you leaders in your life to help you make the right decisions like your parents, your Life Group Leader, and your pastors.  Yeah, they are responsible for you and will help you go in the right direction.

If you listen and obey their instructions, you will keep yourself under cover.  It’s like being under an umbrella on a rainy day.  If you stay under the covering of the umbrella, you will be protected by the rain.  But, if you don’t stay under the covering of the umbrella your hair, your clothes, your backpack, and all your stuff will get all wet, right?  Or like on a very cold night you get your soft blanket to cover you.  If you stay under the covering of the blanket, you will be kept warm.  But as soon as you get out from the covering you are no longer protected from the cold.

Every time you obey your leader, you stay under God’s covering. Every time you go to your leader for help, you stay under God’s protection.

Let’s pray:  Thank You, Lord, for giving me leaders that love You and obey You.  Thank You that my leaders lead me by Your Word.  Give me a new heart that will obey You and the godly leaders in my life.

This Week’s Pledge of Honor

I will listen to my leaders and obey those who direct me in God’s good ways.  I will stay under God’s covering of protection and blessing.

This Week’s Bible Reading

PROVERBS 11:14 (AMPC)

Where no wise guidance is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

Psalm 84:11 (NLV)

For the Lord God is a sun and a safe-covering. The Lord gives favor and honor. He holds back nothing good from those who walk in the way that is right.

Deuteuronomy 28:13 (NLT)

If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom.
