Today’s Bible Verse
“So this is why we abandon everything morally impure and all forms of wicked conduct. Instead, with a sensitive spirit we absorb God’s Word, which has been implanted within our nature, for the Word of Life has power to continually deliver us.”
James 1:21 (TPT)
The Word Has the Power to Deliver Us
Family, I want to encourage us to read this verse above more than once. I think it’s good that we ask ourselves, “What do I need to be delivered from?” Do I need to be delivered from fear? Do I struggle with thoughts of inadequacy? Do I question my ability to conquer? Do I give too much consideration to my past and not enough consideration to the promises of God?
This verse above in The Passion Translation is encouraging us to abandon, do away with, everything that is impure. Do away with everything that is not of God. Do away with those things that are contrary to the Word of God, and instead, with a sensitive spirit, absorb the Word of God.
When we became born again, we took on a new nature, and the Word has been implanted in this new nature. It will take practice, but as we allow His Word to rule and to reign in our lives, this new nature will change us—the way we think, the way we do things, the way we form habits. Our spirit man is where the Word is alive, where the Word has been implanted.
A definition for implanted is “to be set permanently in the consciousness or habit patterns.” So, when we allow the implanted Word of God to have its way in our lives, the Word continually delivers us, continually sets us free, continuously helps us to conquer every struggle in our lives. John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is the Word. The Word is alive and has the power to help us walk in faith and stay in faith!
Something to Think About
Why is it that we sometimes look to the external or things in the world to help us to conquer? Why is it that we feel that the world’s way of doing and being right can help us overcome our struggles? Why is it that sometimes we feel worldly things can bring us significance?
James 1:21 clearly says that the Word of God has the power to continually deliver us. The Word of God has the power to free us, to heal us, to bring you and me freedom all the time! What are we waiting for? I believe that should settle it for us. The Word of God is the answer for everything you and I may go through in life.
It’s time we settle that we will live in the Word, walk in the Word, and allow the Word to deliver us out of every type of ungodliness! It’s time! (Desaree Kurihara)
