“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Has there been a time when God spoke to you about doing something? And as you started to think about it, you began to say to yourself, “If I do this thing God is asking of me, then this will happen or that will happen.” Or how about, “It’s so hard”, or “I can’t do that!”? Have you ever questioned, “Is this even God speaking to me?”
Well, this has happened many times to me and I’ve ended up not doing what God has asked of me. Then a battle begins in my mind, “Why didn’t I do it? Was it because of my circumstances? Was I a bad person? Was it fear about what could happen?” One time in particular, I heard God say, “Malcolm, total surrender.” When I asked Him what He meant by “total surrender”, He told me, “Total surrender is obedience without your opinions.”
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
God took me to the Proverbs 3:5-6 (TPT), “TRUST in the Lord COMPLETELY and do not rely on your own OPINIONS…With all your HEART rely on Him to guide you, and He will lead you in every DECISION you make. Become intimate with Him in whatever you do, and He will lead you wherever you go.” It was then I realized I wasn’t as surrendered as I thought I was. I had made a lot of decisions based on my opinions by leaning on myself.
How many times have we let our opinions stop us from trusting God and doing what He wants us to do? God wants us to lean on Him not on ourselves. Our pastors have been encouraging us to run to our secret place and seek God’s presence and to inquire of Him daily by making Him our vital need. We must also make prayer a lifestyle. “Lord, I make a DECISION today to make Your Word Final Authority in my life and to TRUST You by FAITH with all of my heart. I totally surrender to You with my obedience and NOT my OPINION.”
