Today’s Bible Verse
Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]
Philippians 2:5 (AMPC)
What It Means to Be Uncommon
What makes someone’s life uncommon? Some people think it’s a “special vocation” or obtaining material things that nobody has. Others may think it’s obtaining a high status in life. Yet Jesus paints a perfect picture of what an uncommon life is in this chapter.
Philippians 2:6-8 (AMPC) states, “Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, but stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross!” Take time to think of this passage of scripture. Jesus IS God, and He possessed everything that made God, God! Yet He humbled Himself, by being submitted to the Heavenly Father and fulfilled God’s will. What a great example to follow!
Jesus said this powerful statement in the Garden of Gethsemane, “…not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42 NKJV). The will of God is the Word of God. He has a will for our lives, our families, our careers, and our ministries and He desires to see it come to pass! Yet in order for His will to be fulfilled in our lives, there must be a surrendering of our OWN will first. To live an uncommon life for Jesus, we have to humble ourselves by surrendering our own will and submitting to His will, just like what we read in Philippians 2. I believe when we do so, we can see the promises of God fulfilled in all areas of our lives! (Walter Arguelles)
An Uncommon Life
Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave a commission (or His Will) to all the believers, which was to win souls and make disciples (i.e. the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV). Jesus’ last words before ascending to heaven should be every believer’s first priority. He wants EVERY believer (not just some) to be involved in winning souls and making disciples. Whether we are a stay home parent, or working in a corporate office, or going to school, Jesus wants us to win souls and make disciples!
In Matthew 9: 37-38 (NKJV), Jesus said, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Remember the harvest field is our neighborhood, our workplace, our schools, and God has placed us there to fulfill His Great Commission.
Pastor Art asked a powerful question in one of his messages on “Enlarging Your Circle Of Love.” He asked, “What would happen if we, the church, were to see what God sees through His eyes? What if tomorrow, we would see our neighbors, our co workers, our classmates, through God’s eyes?” Ask yourselves that question, “Do I see people through God’s eyes, or do I see them through my own eyes?” Our own eyes could view them as an irritant, annoyance, furstriation, or looking at the outward appearance and not the condition of their heart. Yet I believe when we see humility through God’s eyes, we can love people back to life and fulfill the will of God in winning souls and making disciples.
Today’s Declaration
I declare that I will live an uncommon life by surrendering my own will and humbling myself by submitting to God’s will! My life is not my own; it belongs to You, Lord! Remove the veil off of my spiritual eyes so I can see humanity through Your eyes, in Jesus’ Name!
